VIRTUAL ARTIST OF THE MONTH - May 2020
Edward Hopper House is pleased to continue its Artist of the Month program, not in the Museum Shop, but ONLINE for May 2020 due to shelter-in-place and quarantine recommendations for COVID-19.
SHAKIRA CHIN
Born in Kingston, Jamaica W.I. of Chinese Jamaican decent, Shakira Chin moves to New York City in 1998. She worked in Hospitality Management and sought an artistic community and or organizations to nurture and cultivate her creative outlets. Besides a brief stint in Art School at a young age, Shakira is primarily self-taught. She began exhibiting landscapes and abstract oil paintings in Rockland County in 2017 and has exhibited in solo and or group artshows almost monthly. Her inspiration is evoked from all “Elements” in nature, predominantly that of water. She embraces the bountiful color palette of sunrises/ sunsets and desires to create a photo rendition of a “Moment in Time”. Realism that resonates and is precious to that person. Shakira is elated to be engulfed by the plethora of surrounding parks and outdoor spaces throughout the Hudson Valley (LoHud), the Hudson River itself and the soulful Rivertown Nyack...she calls home.
