JULY 28, 2022 - Sheila Jordan and Cameron Brown, Bass and Voice
It started in Toledo, Ohio, early 50’s, Sheila sitting in with Charles Mingus and Lee Konitz: She said, “but there’s no piano.” Charles said, “you don’t need a piano.” She sang and she was hooked: on the sound, on the silence, on the transparency, on the freedom. It became her favorite way to perform.
She asked Cameron to join her nearly 25 years ago. They were already old friends and musical partners. It was a dream come true for him.
Sheila and Cam take you back to her dear friend, Charlie Parker; they delight in having all of modern jazz history at their fingertips. Their repertoire is a rich and constantly surprising tapestry of poetry, standards and jazz standards, and original music and lyrics
And the duo format colors everything they do with a particular poignancy, intimacy and intensity.
Sheila was designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2012.
