The Nighthawks Teen Leadership Program engages and mentors teens by teaching leadership skills, and helping to deliver exhibitions, tours and programs to the public at the Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center. We encourage students from Rockland County high schools to apply to this award-winning program. The Nighthawks interpret Edward Hopper’s experience in Nyack as a young artist and its effects on his renowned artwork, while also organizing and leading programs for Rockland's youth and families. Not only do Nighthawks receive an inside look at how museums operate, they train as tour guides, workshop leaders, and general ambassadors of the Museum. These junior docents become part of the Museum community as volunteers, earning community service hours, and may eventually qualify to work as Museum visitor service staff!
In addition, the Nighthawks attend field trips to other cultural art organizations enabling teens to explore within a context that highlights confidence, dedication, and enthusiasm.

The Nighthawks teen leadership program received an award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2018. This award acknowledged the Edward Hopper House Museum’s commitment to extending historic preservation, art and culture to new audiences.

Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center extends sincere thanks for support of the Nighthawks Teen Leadership Program through Rockland County and New York State Council on the Arts grants and from contributions from our donors to our annual Arts Education Benefit and the Annual Appeal. This generous support makes the Nighthawks Teen Leadership Program possible by funding art supplies, community engagement projects, art educators, and visiting teaching artists.
