EDWARD HOPPER HOUSE MUSEUM AND STUDY CENTER

HOP INTO ART

Saturdays & Sundays from 1-3 PM at the Edward Hopper House offer ongoing family art workshops related to the artwork on display in the main gallery. Filling a gap in arts education in public schools, this workshop program gives families immediate access to high quality art while offering insights into the exhibitions and local history presented at Edward Hopper House.  Hop Into Art is FREE* with the accompanying guardians' admission to the House. (This is not a drop-off event.) ​*Attending FAMILY members ALSO receive free admission to the House if their child is enrolled in one of partnering districts:

Family Open House - FREE FOR HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS

Offered along with Hop into Art drop in workshop; Fee: $10 per family, free for Household Members (includes admission). 
​Oct 13th, 12-1pm: In this family workshop Suzette Marie Martin shares some easy artist tricks for creating the illusion of space and depth using simple lines and shapes, warm and cool colors.

​Nov 10th, 12-1pm: Pastel artist Joyce Byrnes will lead a pastel workshop, exploring technique and style with participating families.

Dec 8th, 12-1pm: Families work with art educator and artist Kaitlyn Rindler in a mandala workshop to explore the color palette of the Hudson River.

 Sep 15th, 12-1pm:  Workshop with Cliff Tisdell: Try your hand at making a "Hopper Hat" painting. Edward Hopper House will provide acrylics, brushes and mixed media paper.

Join arts educator Kelly Quartironi for a demo workshop in the Art Lab to learn how she creates her unique sculptures.

Travel through our gallery installation of floating, paper boats to join collector and magician Benjamin Levy for an enchanting Origami
workshop.

Sunday, June 9, 12-1p - Hopper’s Circle
Families join museum educator Sarah Cohen to learn about the family and friends who supported Edward Hopper’s artistic pursuits.

Reframing and Renaming “illness” through Art, Music and Writing - with Sara Wildavsky. Create “Illustrated Scores” working with live music.  No experience necessary. Please bring small mementos, treasured letters, sheet music, and photos if you have them (originals or copies).

Like Holly Zausner walks through “Unsettled Matter,” make a journey through twists and turns with artist Charis Carmichael Braun - that you create in your own maze.

Sunday, April 14, 12-1p - Hopper Resonating
Join art educator Kaitlyn Rindler in Hopper’s childhood bedroom and the EHH Art Lab to explore techniques of creative mindfulness.

Sunday February 10, 12-1p - "Silence Searching for Words"
​Explore connections between poetic and painted expression in the gallery with Spoken Word poet Marcus John.

​​Sunday January 13, 12-1p
Explore Hopper's iconic 1929 painting, "Chop Suey" with Nyack watercolor artist Janice Baragwanath.  Janice is an Artist Member of the Edward Hopper House and a frequent exhibitor in the area.  Her work has won numerous awards throughout New England. For over 30 years she has taught drawing and painting, specializing in portraiture.

In spirit of current exhibiting artist Carrie Mae Weems, museum visitors juxtapose cut-outs of figures from Hopper's most iconic paintings onto current-day images of Nyack and The Edward Hopper House today in this photo-collage workshop.
