EXHIBITING AT THE EDWARD HOPPER HOUSE

As Edward Hopper's home and the place where he developed his artistic vision, we have a unique opportunity to tell the story of the house and home, the Hopper family, and Edward Hopper the artist, by presenting exhibitions that are thought provoking and visually engaging, encompassing high concept themes and subjects, while promoting Hopper's artistic legacy and the influence of the house upon it. Exhibitions align with our mission “to celebrate Edward Hopper’s legacy by preserving his birthplace, family home and archive while serving as a resource for scholars and artists and nurturing community engagement with the arts.”

Exhibitions are selected in consultation with the Exhibition Committee, a diverse group of professional artists and curators. Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center is not currently accepting proposals for exhibitions in the main galleries.

    As a boy at the age of 16, Edward Hopper was inspired by a message in a bottle that he found on the shores of the Hudson River. He kept it as a treasured object and it is displayed to this day on the second floor of The Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center in Nyack, NY, his boyhood home. Hopper was fascinated by the wide variety of boats on the Hudson River and this considerable interest is evidenced in the many paintings and drawings he created that depict boats, the Hudson River and landscapes of the Hudson Valley.

    We are calling on Artists to submit existing sculptures or new proposals for art works to be displayed in the newly reopened and renovated Outdoor Sculpture Garden. The theme of this outdoor exhibition is being coordinated in conjunction with an exhibition in the main gallery of Edward Hopper Hopper House by Alastair Noble in which he will create a dynamic installation of paper origami boats containing poetic messages.

    We are looking for work that relates to the themes of hidden messages, boats, the Hudson River or any other interpretation that is a compelling artistic statement and relates to the theme. All materials as well as installations are acceptable, but work must be suitable for display outdoors for a period of 4 months. 

    Artists are responsible for delivery/ shipping of artwork to Edward Hopper House, 82N Broadway, Nyack, NY.
    A small stipend may be available for accepted artists.

By joining the Edward Hopper House as a Artist Member you are entitled  to exhibit in the annual members show AND be considered for one of the 12 annual Artists of the Month slots. The Artist of the Month may display a small selection of work in our Museum Shop. Selections are made on a rolling basis throughout the year.
