Edward Hopper House Scholarship for Artistic Curiosity

Picture
The Edward Hopper House Scholarship for Artistic Curiosity is for high school juniors. Recipients of this scholarship are selected by the individual HS Guidance Counselors under the advisement of the students’ Art, Music and English teachers.  Artistic curiosity, a unique personal style and self-expression are hallmark traits of all successful artists.  Through this scholarship, the Edward Hopper House Art Center, acknowledges students who express an unquestionable curiosity for the arts.  We are seeking students who are unique, creative and expressive.  We hope that this award may actually spark a young person into pursuing a creative career path in life.

This award is generously underwritten by Mary Ekmalian

The 2013 recipients of this award are: Mariesa Aguilar- Nanuet High School, Michelle Marin-Avalos-Ramapo High School, Justine Giardina- Suffern High School, Bianca Guerrero- Pearl River High School, Shelby Hougui- Clarkstown High School North, Alice Lee- Clarkstown High School South, Jenna Lubeck- Nyack High School, Jeanne Kim- Tappan Zee High School,

2nd Annual Edward Hopper House Express Yourself! Mentored Painting Program

Peter Carr/ The Journal News
In the summer of 2010 The Edward Hopper House Art Center began a series of mentored painting workshops with the Rockland YMCA Summer Teen Club.  10 Youths from the YMCA Summer Teen Club program were paired up with and mentored by 10 professional artists to work on creating a self-portrait and exploring self-expression through painting.  The 10 professional artists all volunteered their time to do this important work. Many of the students had no formal instruction in art.   The program is now in its 2nd year!  Students from our 2011 Summer group will have an exhibition of their work at the Nyack Library from August 31-September 30, 2011.

To read two articles about our 2010 group see the links below. Hopper House Helps Young People Express Themselves (Journal News, Khurram Saeed, 7/19/10) to read more Click here

The Edward Hopper House sponsored the program for the past two years with the aid of private donations. The ultimate goal is to receive ongoing support so that we can continue this program and make it a permanent fixture.  We hope that these children will eventually become mentors themselves and serve as mentors for the program. If you are interested in supporting/donating to the program please contact the Edward Hopper House,
or donate below.
