2nd Annual Edward Hopper House Express Yourself! Mentored Painting Program
|
In the summer of 2010 The Edward Hopper House Art Center began a series of mentored painting workshops with the Rockland YMCA Summer Teen Club. 10 Youths from the YMCA Summer Teen Club program were paired up with and mentored by 10 professional artists to work on creating a self-portrait and exploring self-expression through painting. The 10 professional artists all volunteered their time to do this important work. Many of the students had no formal instruction in art. The program is now in its 2nd year! Students from our 2011 Summer group will have an exhibition of their work at the Nyack Library from August 31-September 30, 2011.

Exhibition (Journal News, Peter Carr, 8/13/10) to read more click here . The Edward Hopper House sponsored the program for the past two years with the aid of private donations. The ultimate goal is to receive ongoing support so that we can continue this program and make it a permanent fixture. We hope that these children will eventually become mentors themselves and serve as mentors for the program.
